Comparing Genetic Diversity in Three Threatened Oaks

نویسندگان

چکیده

Genetic diversity is a critical resource for species’ survival during times of environmental change. Conserving and sustainably managing genetic requires understanding the distribution amount (in situ ex situ) across multiple species. This paper focuses on three emblematic IUCN Red List threatened oaks (Quercus, Fagaceae), highly speciose tree genus that contains numerous rare species poses challenges conservation. We compare oak species—Quercus georgiana, Q. oglethorpensis, boyntonii—to common oaks; investigate correlation range size, population abiotic environment with within among populations in situ; test how well preserved botanic gardens correlates geographic size. Our main findings are: (1) these generally have lower than more abundant (2) some cases, small size correlate differentiation; (3) currently protected inadequately predicted by number samples preserved, suggesting non-random sampling conservation collections. results highlight most managed to avoid severe erosion, but their will likely necessitate management going forward.

in current study, 63 samples of bat populations collected from differ regions were used for evaluating the geographic variations. twenty cranial and dental characters for traditional morphometric and landmarks method on the ventral, dorsal skull and mandible for geometry morphometric studies were used. statistical analyses of traditional morphometric and geometry morphometric data indicated low...

Genetic factors in threatened species recovery plans on three continents

Around the world, recovery planning for threatened species is being applied in an attempt to stem the current extinction crisis. Genetic factors linked to small population processes (eg inbreeding, loss of genetic diversity) play a key role in species viability. We examined how often genetic factors are considered in threatened species recovery planning. We selected recent species recovery plan...

Genetic diversity of Neotyphodium fungal endophytes in three Iranian grass species using AFLP molecular markers

Genetic diversity of fungal endophytes, Neotyphodium species, was studied in grasses Festuca arundinacea, F. pratensis and Lolium perenne using AFLP  markers. Fungi were isolated from the host leaf sheaths and Neotyphodium species were selected based on morphological characteristics. To confirm identity of selected fungi belonging to the genus Neotyphodium, polymerase chain reaction was perform...

Association of genetic and phenotypic variability with geography and climate in three southern California oaks.

PREMISE OF THE STUDY Geography and climate shape the distribution of organisms, their genotypes, and their phenotypes. To understand historical and future evolutionary and ecological responses to climate, we compared the association of geography and climate of three oak species (Quercus engelmannii, Quercus berberidifolia, and Quercus cornelius-mulleri) in an environmentally heterogeneous regio...
